Pedong situated at an altitude of 4500 ft. is surrounded by mighty Kanchanjuga and Mt. Silonchu. Pedong is one of the oldest town in the region. This place offers many places of interest for the tourists. Surrounded by pine forests on rolling hill slopes Pedong commands some magnificent views of snow ranges of Mount Kanchenjunga. Pedong derive its name from a pine tree in Bhutanese language as ‘Pe’ means Pine and ‘Dong’ means Tree i.e. place of pine tree. The tree is around 30m. long and 200 years old and is located in the heart of Pedong. Pedong falls on the ancient Silk route when mule caravans from Tibet would crossover to India through the Jelep-la pass for the business of silk goods. The quite atmosphere of the place always attract the tourists.

The weather of Pedong is pleasant throughout the year. Summers (April–June) are mild and winters are cold when the Himalayas are snow-capped.
